| Pattern of Assistance | 100% by GOI for National level components and 75:25 basis between GOI and State Governments for State level components. |
| Eligibility | For all State Level Components, State Government are implementing agency. Activities like production of sufficient quantity of certified seeds are being implemented by NSC, SFCI, State Seeds Corporations, Farmers Organizations, Cooperatives. The components relating to Front Line Demonstrations (FLDs), Officers Trainings etc. are implemented through ICAR system. |

| Implementation Status | Programme
is being implemented in all maize potential districts in 26 States.
Scheme has been got popularized in the States, there has been increasing
trend in area, production and productivity of maize since inception of
the scheme in 1995-96 on Mission-Mode Approach under TMOP&M.
The total outlay for 9th Plan is Rs. 4904.55 lakhs (as per
EFC memo) consisting of Rs. 4011.79 lakhs as Central share & Rs.
892.76 lakhs as States share. An amount of Rs. 550.00 lakhs
has been allocated as GOI share under the programme for its
implementation during 2001-2002. The major achievements in this
regard may be summarized as under:

| Additional Information | Maize is the 3rd important Cereal in the World. It is the most important crop indigenous to United States of America, where around 25% of Crop land area is occupied by maize. India is at 6th position in maize production and 15th position in its productivity in the World. The maize is cultivated mainly for food, fodder, feed and industrial uses. It is staple food for tribals and poors in the country. More than 3,500 products of daily application are derived from it. It is the crop of future as mentioned by the father of the Green Revolution, renowned Nobel laureate Dr. Norman E. Borlaug. There is an urgent need to promote maize on priority basis by implementing maize development programme on Mission Mode Approach. Recently Honble Agriculture Minister has approved inclusion of new Technology Mission on Maize in the 10th Plan. The crop has highest yield potential among the cereals. Maize can play vital role in ensuring Food Security as well as Nutritional Security (by use of Quality Protein Maize (QPM) for the Country and World as a whole. |
